Chinese enterprises to invest in Textile Industrial Park in Pakistan

Date:2021-02-25
According to Pakistan's Dawn, a Chinese enterprise will invest 150 million US dollars to build an industrial park on the border between Lahore and Kabul in Pakistan, mainly engaged in textile and garment processing, and its products will be exported to Europe, the United States, and the Asia Pacific region.
The Shanghai-based company may be the first foreign direct investment company in the export industry. Since 2017, the company's garment processing plant in Lahore, Pakistan, has exported US $44 million in the last fiscal year and is expected to increase to US $54 million in this fiscal year.
The person in charge of the company said that once the fashion industrial park invested by the company in Pakistan is launched in July next year, it is expected to increase Pakistan's sportswear export by 120 million US dollars, and the export volume will increase to 400 million US dollars in the next few years.
It is reported that the export volume of Pakistan's largest textile export company last year was close to 300 million US dollars.
"Our park will introduce advanced management methods as well as the most advanced and environmentally friendly technologies. Our plan is to make Pakistan the center of our company's export of polyester sportswear. We have Adidas and Reebok customers in China. If we develop well, they will also be interested in investing in Pakistan. " "At present, there are 3000 employees in Pakistan's garment processing plant, including 28 Chinese employees," the company's head said. Once the park is put into operation, 10000 to 11000 new jobs will be created. "
It is reported that the company entered the Pakistani market in 2014 and established a joint venture with Masood textiles, the main exporter of Faisalabad, but failed to continue cooperation. The company then established a garment processing plant in Lahore.
When asked why no other Chinese textile enterprises have moved to Pakistan for investment, the person in charge of the company said that due to labor shortage and rising wages, Chinese textile enterprises are trying to invest and build factories abroad, and many enterprises also want to come to Pakistan. But the Chinese want to move to a place where they can do business in three to six months. No company is willing to waste two years acquiring land and then spend a few more years building supporting facilities. "This is the biggest problem in Pakistan at present," she said. "Even in Africa, there are industrial parks that have completed land leveling and infrastructure support, where enterprises can directly enjoy" plug and play "facilities."
